A Coachella Valley institution since 1924: a working 17-acre date grove with a store, the famous date shakes and a cafe known for date pancakes, fish tacos and a date burger. The store is open 9am to 5pm daily, except Thanksgiving Day and December 24 and 25, and closes at 2pm on December 31. As of October 2026 the cafe is listed as temporarily closed after a power outage, so call the cafe before planning a meal there.
Inside Sands Hotel & Spa, Pink Cabana pairs a glamorous room by designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard with Mediterranean cooking with a Moroccan accent. Go for the harissa chicken or the mushroom tagliatelle. Good for date nights and celebrations; book ahead on weekends.
Set inside La Quinta Resort and Club, Adobe Grill serves Mexican food in a room with a traditional Oaxacan motif and a double-sided fireplace, and pours from more than 100 tequilas. Dinner is served daily from 5 to 10pm, with live entertainment Thursday to Sunday from 6:30 to 9pm. Reservations are a good idea in season.
A contemporary California bistro on El Paseo, one of Porta Via's Southern California locations. Simple California cooking: the Porta Via salad with butter lettuce and French feta, a lobster roll, seasonal oysters and pasta. Open seven days a week, with weekend brunch. A quieter, grown-up dinner away from the resort scene.
